We began the week by introducing the new PSHE topic, Celebrating Differences, during assembly. The children listened to The Invisible by Tom Percival, a moving story about feeling out of place and the experience of starting life in a new country. Together, they discussed the assumptions people often make about others and explored ways to show greater compassion. They also reflected on how to speak up against bullying or unkind behaviour and thought about whom they can turn to when they feel upset or worried.

Mayhew Charity dress up day

It was wonderful to see the children all dressed up for the Pupil’s Choice charity fundraiser on Tuesday to raise money for Mayhew. Some children arrived in full costumes, complete with face paint, while others brought along their favourite cat or dog toys to join in the fun. Altogether, the children raised an impressive total of £389.53.

A special mention goes to Clara in Form Two, who raised £55 during the half-term holiday by hosting a bake sale with homemade dog treats. Well done Clara!

Virtual Coffee Morning - Guest, Speech and Language Therapist Sarah Goodman

Thank you to everyone who took the time to join our virtual coffee morning on Thursday with guest specialist Sarah Goodman. We hope you found it to be an informative session, offering a deeper understanding of the vital role our specialists play in supporting children’s development. The session provided valuable insights into the importance of Speech and Language support, when recommended,  highlighting how it strengthens children’s communication skills, boosts their confidence, and supports their overall learning and development. We appreciate your interest and engagement.

Upcoming

The Jigsaw Group visit CHS

On Monday, representatives from The Jigsaw Company Group, our PSHE scheme provider, will be visiting us to launch a new pupil leadership module. This innovative module was inspired by our former pupil, Meera, who collaborated with her mother, a published author on leadership, to create engaging stories on pupil leadership. We’re incredibly proud that Meera will play a central role in introducing this initiative, which will soon become part of the Jigsaw curriculum nationwide. Before moving on to senior school, Meera spent time in each of our classes, engaging with pupils and answering many of their insightful questions.

We’re honoured to be the first school chosen to pilot this new leadership programme. To mark the occasion, the Jigsaw team will bring along a photographer to capture these memorable first moments of the module.

Daunt Book Fair

Our annual book fair, in collaboration with Daunt Books, is just around the corner! On Wednesday 27th November, all our pupils will have the chance to browse the best children’s books of the season. Exciting new releases from authors like Michael Morpurgo, Rick Riordan, and Julia Donaldson will sit alongside traditional favourites, offering something for every young reader. With a maximum of £20, children can pick up early Christmas gifts or find the perfect book for a cosy weekend curled up with a good story.

Parents are also invited to explore the selection, with the opportunity to ask for recommendations from Daunt’s knowledgeable team and our own English leaders, Mrs Walsh and Mrs Wells. Books will be available for parents to purchase before school, from 8:15 am to 9:00 am, and after school, from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

Junior Play and Senior Choir Carol concert

The junior classes—Junior One, Form One, and Form Two—should have received their scripts for the Junior Play, scheduled for 11th December, either via email or on Google Classrooms. The performance will be supported by the Senior Choir, creating a festive atmosphere. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading through the script with your children and are looking forward to the event. Further details will be shared soon!
