This week, we marked British Science Week with an assembly on the theme of Change and Adapt. The children began the discussion with an engaging assembly led by Mr James, where they explored fascinating examples of how animals have adapted to their environments and how technology continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of society.

The discussion encouraged pupils to think about future adaptations, including the possibility of humans living in space. The assembly concluded with the exciting launch of the British Science Week poster competition. Entries should be submitted to Mr James by Thursday, 27th March. We look forward to seeing the children’s creative ideas!

Upcoming

Debating competition at Queen’s Gate School

Next Wednesday, the Form Six debating team will be heading across the park to take part in a competition, kindly hosted by Queen’s Gate School. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to refine their debating skills and compete against teams from a range of other schools. We wish them the best of luck!

Open Day - Friday 21 March

By now, you will have received the links to book your entry time slot for our annual Open Day on Friday. These time slots have been arranged to ensure a smooth and safe arrival for all visitors. The children and team are looking forward to welcoming you into the school to see the fantastic progress the pupils have made this year.

As part of the day’s events, our senior choir will be performing a special medley of songs under the guidance of Dr Ashworth. If you would like to enjoy their showcase, please join us in the Dining room at 11:00 am.

The morning’s event will conclude at 11:30 am, allowing teachers the necessary time to prepare for the afternoon sessions open to prospective parents. However, once you have explored all you wish to, you are welcome to leave at any time before this.

Your child will stay with you for the duration of your visit and will go home with you for the remainder of the day. There will be no school in the afternoon, including no after school clubs.

In the afternoon, Form Six pupils will return to school as ambassadors, proudly representing CHS and exemplifying the values of our school behaviour code. This opportunity allows them to demonstrate the leadership, responsibility, and communication skills they have developed, all of which will serve them well as they prepare for the transition to senior school. These experiences are invaluable in fostering confidence and independence, ensuring they are well-equipped for the next stage of their education.

Easter Egg Collection for St John’s Hospice

As part of our ongoing charitable work with the local community and the Marble Arch Partnership, we are once again collecting Easter egg donations for St John’s Hospice. If you would like to contribute, please send an Easter egg in with your child on Monday, 24th March. These will then be delivered to the hospice before we break up for the Easter Holidays.

This small act of kindness brings great joy to the recipients and serves as a valuable opportunity for our pupils to develop empathy and an awareness of those in need. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Veranda Books

We are delighted to strengthen our connection with the local community as Veranda Books hosts a series of special storytime sessions for our pupils. Arranged by our Co-Heads of English, Mrs Wells and Mrs Walsh, these sessions will provide a wonderful opportunity for the children to immerse themselves in storytelling in an inspiring setting. They will make their way to Veranda Books, where they will take part in an enriching and interactive experience, fostering a love of reading while celebrating our ties with the wider community.

Form Two Open Dance - Wednesday 26th March

Parents of Form Two pupils are warmly invited to attend our Open Dance Session, where you will have the opportunity to watch the children showcase what they have been learning with Miss Ellie this term. Further details will be shared in due course.

Mr McManus’ Fundraising Challenge

This April, our school counsellor, Mr McManus, will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise funds for Samaritans, a charity providing vital, round-the-clock support to those in distress. Having previously volunteered as a listener, he has seen first-hand the life-changing impact of simply being heard. Donations ensure this crucial service continues, and any support for Mr McManus’s fundraising efforts is greatly appreciated. Together, we can help those struggling to cope find someone who listens.
