ℯNEWS March 10, 2023

Bravo to the children for enthusiastically practising their poems for the Poetry Recital. We look forward to seeing all families at the Carisbrooke Hall, Victory Services Club, next Friday, 17 March 2023 for this special occasion (see upcoming events below).

New School Secretary

We’d like to introduce a new member of staff, Miss Cho, who has come from managing an established nursery school of up to 52 students and has joined our office team. Ms White and Mrs Hampton have enjoyed the week showing her the ropes and I am sure you will all welcome her to our Connaught House School family.

Junior Citizenship scheme

On Monday Form Six made a beeline for Covent Garden to take part in a Junior Citizenship scheme. This was organised by Transport for London and was appropriately hosted at the Transport Museum. The students were involved in role plays with the Police, Fire and Ambulance services as well as with TFL. This is all part of their transition to becoming ideal ambassadors at their secondary schools in September.

Technical issues

Due to some technical issues associated with linking Miss Cho as the school secretary. I would like to apologise for any duplicate emails you may have received. Hopefully these issues will be resolved by Monday.

Health

As a reminder from the start of term email, Strep A and Scarlet Fever is prevalent in the area and therefore would like to remind you of the symptoms.

Symptoms and what to look for…

The official guidance for Strep A is developing but the information on scarlet fever can be found on the NHS and UK Health & Security Agency websites, ‘Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is highly infectious. Therefore, look out for symptoms in your child, which include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin, the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel.

If your child has scarlet fever, keep them at home until at least 24 hours after the start of antibiotic treatment to avoid spreading the infection to others. Early treatment of scarlet fever with antibiotics is important to reduce the risk of complications.

If your child is fit and well, your child is expected to attend school as normal. Please follow our sickness and absence policy, if your child is unwell. You can refer to the school sickness and absence policy here
