What an eventful week we have had, setting the stage for a half-term brimming with exciting activities!

Jigsaw Assembly

This week's assembly was on the Jigsaw topic, "Changing Me," which focuses on understanding that as we grow, we change both physically and emotionally. The children happily shared their experiences of growing up and becoming more independent. They also expressed their thoughts on the importance of being good role models for our school, recognising that it is important to lead by example and inspire the younger children. The children listened attentively to a story about Jigsaw Jem's experiences of his body and mind changing as he grows up. With the help of his friends, he learns to manage his emotions and becomes more resilient. The children concluded the assembly with a wonderful song about overcoming challenges, growing up, and being resilient.

Form Six Trip to Lord’s Cricket

The Form Six pupils had a fantastic evening on Thursday when they headed up to Lord’s Cricket Ground for the latest match in the T20 Blast series. For all of them, it was their first taste of watching the sport at the Home of Cricket. The match saw Middlesex host Glamorgan with the home team amassing 173 runs in their innings. The visiting team from Wales reached the target with ten balls left. The pupils’ enjoyment was enhanced by seeing themselves appear on Sky Sports in the crowd. They also managed to get several high-profile autographs from some of the leading players; including the Middlesex captain Steven Eskinazi. A half-time ice cream was essential to keep the pupils focused on what was an outstanding game. It’s hoped that their interest has been piqued, and they will return to Lord’s many times in the future.

Form Three Tour of London Trip

Form Three had perfect weather for a day on the river. We played the greatest game of eye-spy from Battersea Power Station all the way to the O2 Arena. The children’s favourite part of the day was going up and over the River Thames in the cable car. The children also had fun riding at the front of the DLR as it was 'like a rollercoaster'. A thoroughly enjoyable day had by all.

Virtual Coffee Morning - Guest Mrs Woodcock

On Thursday morning, Mrs Hampton welcomed Mrs Katherine Woodcock, Headmistress of  Francis Holland Regent’s Park, to join her Virtual Coffee morning. Mrs Woodcock,  spoke passionately about the  school's ethos—Knowledge, Perseverance, Spirit, and Compassion—and reflected on how these core principles are embodied throughout her school. She discussed the school’s decision to extend the mobile phone ban to older years and recommended reading "The Anxious Generation" by Peter Hayde to all parents considering buying mobile devices for their children.

An impressive array of clubs was listed, including horse riding and water polo, and she highlighted the strong connections FHN have with local state and boys' schools for societies. Reflecting our own diverse and multilingual school community, Mrs Woodcock described both EAL and SEN support programmes at FHN, as well as their Stretch and Challenge initiatives, with more information available on their website.

With a beautiful, state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre, a number of alumni returning to speak to the girls, and exciting plans for a FHN  TEDx event in 2024/25, Mrs Woodcock left all our parents eager to visit FHN during upcoming open days. Once again, we feel fortunate to have had this firsthand opportunity to meet the Headteacher and gain such a passionate insight into life at FHN.

On the final day of National Smile Month, Mrs Hampton looks forward to seeing parents at her next Virtual Coffee Morning next Thursday 13th June, where she will welcome Dentist and Orthodontist Dr Ali from Twoth to discuss oral hygiene in primary-age children. For any of our parents with questions ranging from when to consider train tracks or braces to nighttime drinks and pacifiers, we hope this opportunity for advice will be valuable. Our children will not be left out, as Dr. Ali will be joining the school in person on Monday morning for our National Smile  Assembly to talk about the importance of dental care and the most effective techniques for brushing teeth.

CHS Big Read event in Hyde Park

Thank you all for making today’s event a tremendous success! It was heartwarming to see children of all ages come together, sharing their love of books and stories. Many of the older children enthusiastically picked their favourite early reader books to share with the younger ones, while some delved into engaging chapter books. Watching the children read independently and to each other was truly delightful. This celebration of reading highlighted the joy and community spirit that make our school so special.

We were impressed with the amount of books the children have enjoyed reading during this campaign especially from Thyra in Form One, reading 26 books! Well done.

We have currently raised £1,981 for The Children's Book Project. There is still time to donate on our JustGiving page: https://bit.ly/4adPV9Q

Tatler Schools Guide Awards 2024

Following Tatler Magazine’s visit earlier in the year, and their subsequent decision to include CHS in their own Schools Guide, they have now included us as a nominee in the Tatler Schools Guide Awards 2024. We are delighted to share with you the voting form via the following link: https://forms.gle/SMKa87uKexVc8E288

We would ask all our CHS families to support the school in this prestigious award. Thank you for your support.
