ℯNEWS February, 28 2025
Welcome back to the second half of this busy spring term – we hope all our families had a wonderful half-term and have already taken note of our "save the date" communication sent earlier today.
Jigsaw Assembly
The Jigsaw assembly on Monday focused on making healthy choices. The children learned about the healthy food plate and the importance of different food groups in maintaining both a healthy body and mind. We also discussed ways to support mental well-being and how to be mindful.
In addition, the assembly covered key aspects of safety—at home, in school, and in the wider community—including important guidance on online safety. The children were encouraged to be mindful of food waste and to make sensible choices when selecting snacks.
Poetry Competition - Wednesday, 26 February
On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming our guest adjudicators to CHS. In the morning, Miss Wendy Innes, Principal of Great Beginning’s Nursery School, carefully evaluated the Junior poetry competition, while in the afternoon, Miss Amy Wallace, Head Teacher of Queen’s Gate School, took on the same role for the Senior classes. Both faced the difficult task of selecting pupils to be commended for their recitations, who will go on to perform at next Friday’s Poetry Recital.
This much-anticipated event marks the culmination of our term’s focus on poetry, and we look forward to welcoming you all. Each class will present a whole-class choral poem, followed by individual performances from children recognised by our adjudicators.
Junior One Pizza Express Trip - Friday, 28 February
The Junior One class arrived bright and early this morning, eager for their trip to Pizza Express! Donning their chef hats, they stepped into the role of pizza chefs for the morning, enjoying a hands-on experience as part of their Understanding the World unit in the curriculum. The children had an enjoyable morning making and eating their pizzas at the restaurant. The children were very excited to take a walk in the local area too.
Upcoming
Tuesday 4 March - Character Dress Up Day
In celebration of World Book Day, children are welcome to come into school dressed up in a costume from their favourite book. This is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to share their favourite stories and discover new reading recommendations from their friends. We encourage children to be able to explain who or what they are dressed as and which book their inspiration comes from. Where possible, we suggest using items from home to create a costume or arranging a costume swap with classmates for a fun and sustainable approach.
Wednesday 5 March - Form Six Trip
Year Six pupils have been invited to take part in the TfL Junior Citizenship Scheme, where they will learn key life skills and citizenship messages from organisations such as the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, and TfL. This is a great program in helping children develop the skills they will need as they approach the transition to senior school.
Friday 7 March - Poetry Recital
The Poetry Recital will take place on Friday afternoon at the Carisbrooke Hall, beginning promptly at 2.30 pm. Guests must be seated by 2.25 pm, and the recital will last approximately 60 minutes, with children dismissed directly to parents or carers afterwards. At least one adult must attend per child, as they will leave directly from the Hall. Due to limited seating, parents and extended family are welcome but all guests, including parents, must be registered via the link below as soon as possible. Please note this event is not suitable for children under 4 years old.
Please note:
Children should wear their school uniform (not games kit) on Friday and there is no need for children to bring their bags or water bottles as water will be provided in school.
After-school clubs will NOT take place on this day.
Friday 7 March - Second-Hand Book Sale
Following last year’s successful second-hand book sale, the Parents’ Committee is hosting another second-hand book sale on the mezzanine level of the Carisbrooke Hall which will run both before and after the poetry recital. Doors will open at 2 pm for the first browsing and sales session. Unsold books will be donated to charity. Books for all age groups are welcome, especially baby board books. Donations can be brought to school on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th March.
