What a wonderful end to the first half of the final term for the year.

Junior One Minibeast dress up day

Junior One welcomed spooky spiders, bouncing bees, lovely ladybirds and beautiful butterflies into school on Tuesday for a marvellous minibeast day. The day started off with a minibeast hunt in Hyde Park. Followed by theme inspired baking and cooking as the children made their own bug inspired treats including ladybird biscuits and cucumber butterflies. These were all gobbled down at their party which included dancing like caterpillars and spiders! Some pictures were taken and included on the CHS instagram page, feel free to access this via the link below.

Form One Fairytale dress up party

Form One enjoyed a fairytale dress up party to round off their theme of ‘Traditional Tales’. The children made gingerbread men, played party games, read traditional tales and sang songs before eating a fairytale picnic. It was lovely to see so many beautiful costumes and enthusiastic, happy faces. A good time was had by all. However there was a tinge of sadness as this was a bittersweet moment saying goodbye to Mrs Rogers.

Form Five KPS interviews

Most of our Form Five children visited Kensington Park School on Wednesday afternoon as part of the 11+ process. Mrs Hampton, together with Ms White, escorted the children by bus the short distance along the Bayswater Road to Bark Place. Headmaster, Stephen Mellor, and Head of Lower School, Elizabeth Emerton, rotated interviews with each child. Whilst waiting their turn the children enjoyed an inspiring art session with Ms Akinci where they painted on silk screens. One of our previous pupils came to visit the art room to say hello, and it was a real delight to see such creativity. This was a very worthwhile and informative experience at the start of the journey on the road to senior school.

Maths Competitions

Quiz Club Maths Tournament

Following their bronze medal success at UCS earlier in the month, four pupils from Forms Five and Six took part in the semi finals of the national Quiz Club Maths tournament. They were up against forty other teams, looking for a place in the Grand Final in Oxford. Questions ranged from GCSE level Algebra to calculations involving velocity and acceleration – it wasn’t for the faint-hearted. The competition was tough and, despite momentarily being in fifth place, they ended up a commendable eighteenth place. They answered 25 of the 30 questions correctly and their high score could still see them into July’s final. Well done to captain Riddhi, Estella, Alexander and Aurelia.

Sumdog Maths Competition

Throughout the week, Forms Five and Six have been embroiled in a seven day national Sumdog Maths competition. Every pupil has to take part, with the scores being calculated on the pupils’ average totals. Each pupil had to answer a thousand questions and there were over two thousand classes taking part. When the results were announced, Form Five ended in a superb sixth place, with Form Six in second. What an outstanding achievement by both classes.
