ℯNEWS MAY 19, 2023

To reiterate Mrs Hampton’s comments at the start of the coffee morning, our weekly eNews updates are written to help parents juggling busy schedules to be aware of the weekly developments and what’s coming up in this very busy Summer term. Please do take a moment to read through.

Week in review

Senior Choir - Singing at the Victory Services Club

Our Senior Choir had the pleasure of singing a selection of songs at the Victory Services Club last Tuesday in celebration of the King’s Coronation, including a rousing rendition of the national anthem. We were very fortunate to have a full house as many patrons were preparing to attend Prince William’s garden party! It is always so wonderful to get out into the community and share the joy of music with our neighbours.

Independent Schools Association - Art Challenge

We are delighted that Form Four and the Senior Art Club’s art pieces were chosen from over 200 entries to be included in the Independent Schools Association’s online art gallery, you can view this using the link below.

Bank of England Trip - Form Five and Six

Two museums in just four and a half hours was the itinerary for Forms Five & Six on Tuesday.
Firstly, the pupils headed to the Bank of England Museum for a financial foray into the history of cash and notes. The pupils learnt about the earliest roots of banking, viewed a one million pound note and lifted a 30 kg gold bar:

"Holding gold was the highlight of the trip for me!" claimed Iqbal.

"I never knew that the roots of the Bank of England were actually financed through slavery, " mentioned Hannah.

Just before lunch, the pupils hopped on the DLR and zoomed to the East End and arrived at the Museum in Docklands.
The classes had a session in a Second World War bunker before learning about how London was created on the docks and the devastating effects of two world wars. One final session saw the pupils investigate The Blitz from the first hand recollections of octogenarian, Ken, who lived through it.

"Ken's wartime stories were heart-breaking!" mentioned Olimpia.

"It was amazing to think that whole families lived on top of each other for hours on end in their bomb shelters," announced Alexander.

The hectic day ended with an exciting whistle-stop trip around the Gift Shop.

Football Fixture at Wetherby School - Form Five

Our Form Five class put in a tremendous effort against some fierce opponents in the Wetherby football tournament. A thoroughly enjoyable experience for the team and they were all delighted to go home with a medal. Alas they took fifth place out of the six schools that entered and showed tremendous sportsmanship as they returned to school with medals around their necks and smiles on their faces. Special mention to Eleanor, who was a rock at the back and pushed the team forward from the first whistle to the last.

Virtual Coffee Morning - Head of PSHE, Ms Galligan

The PSHE JIGSAW coffee morning was a great success, with so many parents taking time to be there. The feedback we have had so far has been very positive. Our aim was to inform and to help parents understand the statutory requirements for RSE and share the RSE JIGSAW resources and samples of work. At CHS we continue to work on improving and meeting the requirements of all areas of PSHE and Wellbeing.

New Parents Visit

Most of our CHS parents will remember their own induction into our wonderful school community. On Thursday evening Mrs Wells and Mrs Hampton welcomed the parents of our new Junior One cohort 2023/24 into school for their introduction to life at CHS.

INCAS Assessments

All classes in the school were completing INCAS assessments at various times this week. These are assessments which CHS completes each year to measure pupil’s progress in Maths and English from year to year. Teachers will be able to share the outcomes of these assessments with you during the Parent meetings next week.

Upcoming week

Mini beast dress up day - Junior One

Junior One children are invited to dress as mini beasts on Tuesday 23rd May as a way to conclude the Science unit. The children have enjoyed learning about different types of mini beasts and are excited to dress up in their favourite costumes.

Mrs Rogers send off / Fairy Tale dress up party - Form One

On Wednesday 24th May the children in Form One are welcome to dress up in fairytale costumes as they come to the end of their “Traditional Tales” topic in English. They will then enjoy a fairy tale party together after writing invitations, letters and lists.  Sadly this party will also be a send off for Mrs Rogers, who due to unforeseen circumstances, will not be returning to CHS after half term. Mrs Hampton and Ms Moreno will be teaching Form One for the remainder of the Summer Term.

KPS Interviews - Form Five

As part of our 11+ arrangement with local senior school Kensington Park School, children from Form Five will be heading to KPS on Wednesday afternoon for their senior school interviews. We wish this cohort of very interesting and articulate children the best of luck as they embark on their 11+ journey.

Parents meetings -  Wednesday 24th May -No Baking Club

Parents meetings are taking place in school next week and therefore, there will be no Baking Club next Wednesday 24th May. Thank you for your understanding.

Parent meeting - Wednesday 24th May - Football club

We are hoping for dry weather which will allow this popular club to go ahead next Wednesday. However if there is wet weather, then the club will have to be cancelled due to Parent meetings occupying every room in the school on Wednesday afternoon. If the weather is changeable then the decision to cancel or not, will be confirmed by email at 12pm on Wednesday afternoon. Children (not those who are having their KPS interviews earlier in the day) should arrive at school in their PE kit this one time.

Half Term Reminder

Half term is just around the corner, Thursday will be the last day the children will be in school. There will be no school on Friday for the children.
