Open Day

Open Day was a wonderful success, we hope you all had an enjoyable morning exploring the school and seeing all the marvellous work the children have been up to. The children in forms five and Six were fantastic tour guides in the afternoon. They took pride in their roles and introduced the school to prospective parents talking to them about all the magnificent work they do here.

Earlier in the week

Junior Debate Tournament - Queen’s Gate School

It has been a momentous week for the pupils in Form 6. On Monday the entire cohort headed to Queen’s Gate School for an annual debating competition. The class was split into two teams captained by Olimpia and Riddhi respectively. The tournament saw us up against eighteen other teams from schools across London. The topics of debate included contentious issues about whether we should only eat food produced in the UK as well as considering whether we should bring extinct animals back to life. When the scores were added up, the team of Riddhi, Estella and Alexander were crowned champions. A simply brilliant achievement!

“The moment when I entered the room, I was pretty nervous for my team but ready for the first round. We were pitched against another co-ed group.” - Iqbal

“We were pitched against a previous champion and it stressed us out a bit and was a little scary at first. The other team seemed a bit nervous at first as well, but as they relaxed we also relaxed. We were silently celebrating because we were arguing the opposition which is what we were most prepared for. Once we heard we had won, we were pretty excited as we had never won before as a team.”  - Riddhi

Sumdog Maths Competition

Throughout this week, Form 6 has been up against hundreds of other classes in the national Sumdog Maths competition. Each competitor has to answer up to a thousand questions across the seven days. There were over a thousand classes which qualified and offered stern competition. When the totals were added up, Form 6 came top, retaining the trophy which was won by last year’s Form 6 class. All of the one thousand questions per student were finished with 6 minutes left to spare as seen on the countdown.

“I was very confident we would win, at the beginning, but when I heard there were over a thousand classes competing, I lost a bit of hope. However  we made it in the end and got first place out of all the other classes with 919 correct answers on average!” - Iqbal

“The one thing I learnt from this competition is to never procrastinate. I had to speed through 500 questions in two hours!” - Riddhi

Easter Egg Collection - St John’s Hospice

This year we are collecting chocolate Easter Eggs for the patients at St John’s Hospice. This is part of the charitable work with the local community and Marble Arch Partnership. If you would like to donate an Easter egg please send them in with your child on the 27th, 28th March. Ready for delivery to St John’s Hospice on Wednesday afternoon. This simple gesture of kindness means so much to the recipients and is an ideal opportunity to open our children’s minds to those less fortunate than themselves.

Please note: the eggs must be in an unopened box, and nut free.

Online Presence

As we continue to build our online presence, we have now established our Facebook page. You can connect to our Facebook page here and to our Instagram page here. The eNews is also posted onto the school website for your convenience.

A huge congratulations to Aurelia and Estella as they both competed in the some music festivals in the last few weeks. Aurelia won first prize and a trophy for the musical versatility class; she performed both a violin and a piano solo. She was also awarded bronze for the violin solo under 10 years old category.

Estella won the silver prize for the violin solo under 11 years old category.

Surprise Visitor

We had a surprise visitor towards the end of Open Day. A teacher, Ms Krystyna Ganczakowski who previously taught at CHS, in 1974 - 1978, popped by for a tour. Our Forms Five and Six tour guides had lots of fun taking her around the school and showing how the school has developed over the years.
