Mrs Hampton started the week with a key assembly on the importance of kindness. She set pupils a task of cascading acts of kindness throughout the week at school and home. So we hope all our CHS families have been grateful recipients of random acts of kindness from the children.

Virtual Coffee Morning with Mrs Hampton - Parent consultation on Reports

Children ’s Mental Health Week, 3rd - 9th February 2025

Miss Wilkins will introduce the important topic, “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself”, during Monday's assembly, ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week, which begins on 3rd February. For families interested in exploring this topic at home, Miss Wilkins recommends the picture books available through the following link: https://www.booksfortopics.com/booklists/topics/pshe-emotional-literacy-citizenship/mental-health/. Additionally, Tom Percival’s series of books on emotions offers an excellent introduction to the wide range of emotions children may experience. These books emphasise that no emotion is "wrong" to feel while empowering children to manage their emotions effectively.

To mark children’s Mental Health Week at CHS, we invite all children to wear colourful socks on Friday, 7th February to show their support for mental well-being. Each colour represents an important aspect of mental health:

Green symbolises feeling well, while yellow reminds us to stay hopeful and positive. Blue helps us think about staying calm and happy, and purple represents creativity and healing. Orange encourages us to take care of our feelings and manage stress.

Children are welcome to mix and match these colours in any way they like—whether their socks are stripey, spotty, long, or short! Let’s use this special day to celebrate well-being, positivity, and creativity together.

Lunar New Year 2025

We would like to wish all our CHS families a joyous Lunar and Chinese New Year celebration on Wednesday, 29th January.

We warmly invite any pupils to take part in a special Lunar and Chinese New Year assembly on Monday, 3rd February. This will be a wonderful opportunity to share how they celebrate this occasion and the traditions they follow to mark it. If your child would like to participate, please email the school office.

Upcoming Trips and competitions

Forms Four and Five are heading off to the British Museum on Monday 3rd February. Form Five will visit the Parthenon Marbles and Greek artefacts, exploring their historical significance and deepening their understanding of the past. Form Four will explore Ancient Egyptian artefacts, including everyday items, tomb paintings, the Rosetta Stone, and large statues, to deepen their understanding of this fascinating period.

The CHS debating team along with Mr Garvey and Miss Arthur are heading off on Monday 27th January, to Queen’s Gate School for the first round of the Cicero Debating Competition. We eagerly await the results and are confident in the skill and determination of our savvy debaters. Good luck!

Carnival Day

We look forward to our annual Carnival day on Friday 14th February, the last day of this half term. Whilst the children have not yet been informed of the theme for the year, the date may be a big clue.

Artwork of the Week

Nero in Form Two, for a brilliant painting of leaves. Some lovely leaf vein detail, and fantastic use of watercolours to explore colour mixing and warm/cool contrast. Well done Nero!
