What a wet and windy way to start the half term!

Good Work Assembly

We started the week with a fabulous 'Good Work' assembly on Monday morning, Miss Gill, our esteemed LAMDA teacher, presented our drama pupils with their certificates for their recent LAMDA awards. We were also delighted that Andrea, from Eliza Jane Howell, returned to present her chosen designer rugs as prizes, from her shop, to first-place winners, Alexander and Mariam. They were judged as overall winners of the recent NSPCC PANT design competition. Certificates were also presented to Raphi, Thyra, Ari, Amber, Lili and Jeremy for their best in year design. This competition has cleverly served to remind all our children of the importance of keeping their privates private—a strong safeguarding message that is regularly reinforced at CHS.

Farewell Ms Gany

A very fond farewell to Miss Gany, who  joined CHS  in January 2022 as a lunch and parktime supervisor. She has become an integral part of our school community, is very well-known, and is loved throughout the school. She has made it her mission to ensure that all our children hold their cutlery correctly and have a nutritious lunch before enjoying their playtime in the park. Although Miss Gany has now officially left the CHS team, we look forward to seeing her regularly as she will continue to support Mr. Taiwo with his after-school AFA football club.

As we bid a fond farewell to one member of staff, after the half-term break, we welcome back another, Mrs. Harford, who our Form Three children will remember from her teacher training with us during the summer. Mrs. Harford holds a BA in Psychology and Criminology from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, and has recently completed her Postgraduate studies in primary teaching. She will assist Mrs. Wells  in Junior One with our youngest pupils and will also provide support for park time supervision across the wider school community

Upcoming

Reports

Reports for Forms One to Six are now available from Matrep. Please use the same log in details as previous years. Our Junior One’s can expect report cards to arrive in the post sometime during the week.

Return from Half Term - Monday 30 October 2023

Pupils should return from the half-term break on Monday 30 October 2023, to commence a normal school timetable, including before and after school clubs.  We hope this break will allow everyone a good rest and time to recharge ahead of a busy second half of the Autumn Term.

Special Mentions

Inspired to enter a poetry competition run by a flower company, Lili from Form Five, composed a poem with a spooky Halloween theme. She rose to the challenge of incorporating plants and flowers in her poem. Quite a feat to achieve a sinister feeling about plants, but Lili does that so deftly. It's also a timely reminder that Halloween is around the corner. See if you can spot all the plant references scattered throughout the poem.

THE MANDRAKES SCREAM

Late, late, late at night

Dead Mans Fingers are ready to fright!

Fog oozes into the apple orchard

Howling wakes the small Ghost Orchid

Up, up, up on the misty moor

Creaking awakes the Devils Claw

The Red Spider crawls around

The Wolfsbane creeps from the ground

The back door creaks open

Your heart-stopping cold

Up slithers the Poison Ivy

With blood-curdling mould

Dracula Vampira's fangs shine white

So it continues for the rest of the night.

Lili, F5
