ℯNEWS MARCH 22, 2024

Our penultimate week of term has been a busy one, starting with a whole-school assembly and ending with our superb annual Open morning.

St Patrick’s Day celebrations

There was plenty of emerald green throughout the school on Monday in celebration of St Patrick’s Day on the weekend. Junior One explored the origin story of St Patrick’s Day with Mrs Wells. Whilst Form Two were making Shamrock headbands as part of their eco-fashion show.

Form Two Open Dance - Wednesday 20 March

What an incredible Open Dance session we had with our Form Two class at Sylvia Young’s Theatre School. The children truly shone as they showcased everything they have learnt with Miss Shannon this term. We trust that all Form Two parents who attended Open Dance enjoyed gaining insight into their children's weekly dance lessons.

Parent Visitors

We were delighted to welcome parent visitors into Junior One and Form Two this week. Our youngest children, who have been enjoying tales from around the world, were delighted to hear stories read to them in Hebrew on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Form Two were enthralled to learn more about Ramadan and Eid on Thursday; such a joyous talk complete with little gifts to share with the class. With Spring in the air, we are certainly enjoying learning about and sharing in the joy of our diverse cultures and celebrations.

Open Day - Friday 22 March

It was a fantastic morning at CHS, as we welcomed our extended community to celebrate the children's work. There was a true buzz of joy with our pupil ambassadors escorting their parents through the building. How exciting to see so much progress in books and in the wonderful displays on the walls. The Dining Room was completely redecorated with beautiful and impressive artwork covering every inch of the wall and, as always, music and song could be heard from the dining room as Dr Ashworth accompanied a number of his singers and musicians. For those who ventured to the third floor, Mr Garvey had a reminder of last year's swashbuckling senior play and our particular thanks to Miss Cho for producing a wonderful year-in-review keepsake from Open Day 2023 to Open Day 2024. Well done to all our pupils for all your tremendous hard work and to your teachers for guiding you with support and encouragement every step of the way. Thank you to the CHS team for putting on such a memorable morning.

Easter Egg Collection for St John’s Hospice

This year we are collecting chocolate Easter Eggs for St John’s Hospice patients. This is part of the charitable work with the local community and Marble Arch Partnership. If you would like to donate an Easter egg please send it in with your child on Monday, 25th March ready for delivery to St John’s Hospice on Tuesday 26th March with the School Council. This simple gesture of kindness means so much to the recipients and is an ideal opportunity to open our children’s minds to those less fortunate than themselves.

Please note: the eggs must be in an unopened box, and nut free

Upcoming

Form 5 & 6 Science Trip

On Monday, 25th March Forms Five and Six will be heading to the other side of Hyde Park to the Science Museum for a morning of science-filled learning. We look forward to hearing more from the children on their return.

STEM Workshops

While our oldest pupils are away at the Science Museum, Forms One to Four will take part in some off-timetable STEM-based activities.  We are excited to welcome Joe Miller from Engineering Minds to lead our pupils in exploring the world of Lego Robotics and Coding through fun and engaging STEM workshops. Additionally, with all art projects completed for the term, Miss Foster has organised exciting Design and Technology workshops for each class. We eagerly anticipate seeing what our children can create in their final week of the Spring Term.

For our final parent visits of the term, Junior One are looking forward to hearing from two Dads who will be discussing the celebration of Purim.
