Dear Parents

Happy Halloween for yesterday!  We were impressed to see so many fantastically spooky costumes roaming Connaught Village last night. Fortunately they had all disappeared this morning.

School Council

Miss Burke discussed elections and British values of democracy and freedom of speech during the whole school assembly this week as we embarked on polling for our new school council representatives.  How aptly this was timed!  The children were thoroughly engaged at the prospect of electing class counsellors to represent them and discuss pertinent issues such as favourite school lunch.

Chrome Books

Our brand new Chrome books arrived over the half term and they are already a big hit with the children. Light, safe and easy to use, with many educational apps, we are hoping to embed these into our learning throughout the school. Moreover, today Miss Evans and Mr Westerman are attending an LGFL conference and we hope they will bring back IT tips and tricks as well as suggestions of programmes for us to use to support our learning.

Guy Fawkes Assemblies

Junior and Senior assemblies looked at Guy Fawkes this afternoon and we are all prepared for whoops and bangs on the 5th of November.  Lots of classes will be incorporating firework poetry and art into next week’s lessons.

Diary Dates

A fun packed second half of term awaits us and here are some of the key November events for your diaries.  As always, these and the remainder of the term’s events can be found on the website.

Tuesday 5 November:  Nasal Flu Innoculations: please make sure that you have completed and returned your consent forms.

Tuesday 12 November:  Once again Bentley Photographic are booked to take individual and class photographs. Please make sure that your child is in the correct uniform and looking smart for their picture.

On that same day, the Senior Drama Club has been invited to turn on the Christmas lights in Connaught Square and will be reciting festive poetry at a reception at the VSC. CHS families are all invited, do please RSVP to Ms White with names of guests.

Christmas Plays

Tuesday 26 November:  Christmas Play Dress Rehearsal. Pupils will begin to receive their parts and lines over the next few days. Please make sure your child has their costume in school in time for this, whether beautifully home-made or resourced online.

Friday 29 November:  Please join us for the Christmas Plays at 2.00pm at the VSC, Carisbrooke Hall. Every child in the school will be on the stage; watch out for those little Junior One pupils making their stage debut. This is a family event so little sisters and brothers, grandparents and other key family members are all invited.  We reserve the front row for staff and parents that have volunteered to help.  An email on this from your child’s Form Teacher will be sent out soon.

DVDs will be on sale at £16 but we do require you to pre-order with Ms White.

There will be no peri music lessons the week of the Christmas Plays but clubs will continue as normal.

Enjoy the weekend!
