Half Term Break

It is hard to believe that there are only four more school days left before the half term break.  Please do remember that school finishes for half term at the normal time on Thursday, 23 May – there is no school on 24 May.

Tea Time Concert

Dr Ashworth is looking forward to welcoming invited guests to the Summer Tea Time Concert on Monday, 20 May at 4pm.  We are expecting a delightful treat for the ears.

SIMS Parent Lite

We hope that you have been able to access your SIMS Parent Lite accounts via the App and ask that you take some time to review the parental consent for the CHS Facebook profile.  For any parents who prefer not to use this App, do please email Ms White with your preference.

Online Safety

Thank you to our very helpful parent who has passed on some excellent suggestions for Parental Controls on mobile devices to better protect your children online:

  1. Google Family Link(free)
  2. Qustodio(paid) — this is probably a better option for families with older kids / teens

Both Apps provide parents with the ability to control access to a device (phone or tablet) by setting time of day / day or week / maximum time the device is available. Those Apps also block any App installs on the children’s devices or send the parents a request for authorisation of any App install. Finally, the Apps, by default, set-up all the PG setting on any content.

Parents are able to monitor devices remotely from their smart phone via the Google Family link App. In this way, parents are able to view what their children are looking at and control the amount of time and access each child has online.  This may help to take emotions out of the equation.

Children have a passcode to the device but the device is only available for at set time, eg: 7am to 7pm, and for a limited time of, say, 30 minutes per day.  Outside of that, if they try to access the device they receive a message telling them that their time is up or that it’s time for bed!  If parents want to, they can add more device time, depending on circumstances, or block the device remotely. Children cannot install any Apps as this would need to be done by parents.

Once again, thank you to our Google savvy Mum for sharing this helpful advice.

We were thrilled to have a special visit from the NSPCC today to thank us for the tremendous effort that Connaught House made last term in their sponsorship by raising £1,238.85.  Well done to all who participated.
