Dear Parents

What a busy end of term!  With visits to Mars, a book fair, open swimming and dance, a successful football match against St John’s Wood Pre Prep and showcasing at several community events, we really have ushered in the Christmas Season with an abundance of festive joy.   We received a lovely message from the organiser of the Hyde Park Square Carol event, thanking our choristers, “who provided such wonderful voices to our Christmas Carols.”

The term culminated in Wednesday’s triumphant Christmas Concert with our VIP special guest, Sylvia Young, in the front row and a church full of friends and family. The singing was just beautiful and Beth’s solo brought a tear to several eyes.

Our traditional final assembly was a celebration of the term with jokes, songs and certificates.  Special commendation went to Hannah, in Form 4, for a 365-day streak in Doodle Maths. Such commitment to improving her mental arithmetic will surely take her far.

Chris Swift from Marylebone Women’s Refuge was delighted to take receipt of such a generous collection from our reverse advent calendar.  Thank you to all that donated.

Spring Term Dates

The first day of term is Tuesday 7 January 2020 and all activities will resume that week, so please send in all necessary uniform and instruments/music.

Junior One & Form One: Dance shoes for Tuesday, Games kit for Fridays

Form Two: Dance shoes for Tuesdays, Swimming kit for Fridays

Forms Three to Six: Plimsolls for Fridays

All before and after school clubs will also begin on Tuesday 7 January 2020 and run through the week. Please note an additional Chess lesson for both groups has been arranged for Wednesday 8 January.

Clubs – Places for Thursday after school clubs

Our Tech club was a roaring success this term and next term’s programme sounds equally exciting.  Entirely off-screen, this Electro Craft club will teach pupils the principles of design thinking, electronics, and engineering.  They will be hands-on with design, mechanics and electronics, building “e-craft” wearables, designing personal vinyl stickers, creating a sound-card symphony and building a mechanical interactive candy machine. The best news of all is that we still have a couple of places available for this Thursday club, running from 4.00 – 5.00pm after school, for pupils from Forms Three to Six.

Our Thursday Mandarin Club also has spaces for any budding linguists in Forms One and Two. Run by Speak Like A Native, this club teaches Mandarin entirely through games, tasks and activities. The focus is on speaking and listening to build confidence and a love of language.

Please let our new secretary, Ms De Wynter, know if you are interested or would like further information: secretary@connaughthouseschool.co.uk.
