Competition News - Recently Mrs Desborough submitted a number of our pupils’ artwork to the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show for students aged 7-19.

E-News 21 June 2019

London has been bustling with Connaught House School talent this week.
Three of the children were offered places in the St Martin-in-the Fields Choir.
The Delancey School Chess Mega Final took place at the weekend and we were thrilled to see a trophy arriving into school on Monday.
Our first group sat their Grade One Music Theory tests on Saturday and all came out smiling.  We await their results next term.
The CHS football team played Lloyd Williamson School in Hyde Park on Thursday. The final score was a 3-1 victory.

Mrs Hampton and Ms Grunewald were proud of the children’s exemplary behaviour at our visit to the Daunt Book store in Marylebone today. A selected member from each class was chosen as a Reading Ambassador to help choose new books for the CHS library.
Sadly, our annual football fixture with St John’s Wood Pre-Prep was rained off yesterday.  However, this will be rescheduled at the start of the Autumn Term.

SPORTS DAY RAINED OFF

It was with a heavy heart that we postponed our Sports Day at Paddington Rec this afternoon. Ironically, as we write this message the sun is shinning through the window!  However, our children’s safety is always a priority and, after careful risk assessment, it was decided that the ground was too dangerous after heavy rain.

We will be kicking off the second half of the summer term with a bang! Our annual Sports Day is scheduled for 2.00pm on the afternoon of Friday 7th June at Paddington Recreation Ground.
Tomorrow afternoon, Mrs Desborough, Ms Grunewald and myself will be heading off to 3 Porchester Place (next to Roni’s café) to set up our very first CHS Pop up Art Gallery!
Form Three have sailed across oceans on Viking ships, discovered lost settlements, sparkled at Carnival and discovered a series of never-seen-before animals!

March was a very busy month at Connaught House School. We had a match against St Nicholas, there was an announcement in regard to the staff, we had excellent results at the Delancey School Chess Challenge, there was a talk from Jeremy Monsen et al, an open day, World Book Day, an impressive amount of money raised for the NSPCC and plenty more.

Congratulations to Gabriella, who has been awarded a Bronze Award in the Primary Maths Challenge!
Form Two enjoyed showing the parents their swimming skills at the Kensington Leisure Centre.
We are all preparing for our annual Open Day and, as always, the creativity of our teachers and the quality of our pupils’ work is truly amazing.
We were very pleased when Isabella popped in to see us last week and we thought you would be interested to hear how well she has been getting on at St Marylebone.

E-News February 2019

We are delighted with our boys and girls who sat exams and attended interviews this term.  Offers have been arriving from a whole range of schools including Belmont Mill Hill, Dulwich College, Francis Holland North & South, Kensington Park School, Latymer Prep, More House, Sussex House, South Hampstead, Wetherby, Westminster Under School, Queen’s Gate & Queen’s College.

Particular commendation goes to our Form Six pupils who sat the new format Consortium exams. We are also extremely proud to have heard that our pupils have received a flurry of scholarships to Francis Holland Regent’s Park, Kensington Park School and Queen’s College.  Well done, CHS!

Form Four’s appliqué project based on the paintings of Paul Klee

Our Form Four pupils have applied their needlework skills for an appliqué project based on the paintings of Paul Klee. Studying his abstract style and recurring motifs, pupils have made their own fabric collage in response to the German artist’s work.

Form Three have been inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe

In the Autumn term the children focused on the large-scale flower paintings of American artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Inspired by her work, they took their own photographs of exotic flowers and used them to develop their own floral studies.

Form Two are inspired by Robert Delaunay

The children explored colour, the effect it has on our senses and the way that different colours influence each other. This project centred on the French abstract artist Robert Delaunay and involved experimenting with watercolour paints and oil pastels.

What a busy and successful start to 2019 it has been at 47 Connaught Square! Clubs and Peri lessons swung back into action last week and music assemblies have already been inundated with performers from all Forms. Thank you to parents for your support in reminding your budding musicians to bring in instruments and music on the right days.

The first event of our busy build up towards the end of Term begins next week with Parent Meetings.
Form Five sat their Kensington Park School assessment this week under the watchful eye of Mrs Walsh.
We are eagerly anticipating our Chamber Choir’s participation in the Connaught Village Fair on Thursday.
After last year’s successful Book Fair, Daunt Books are returning on Friday, 23 November.
Form Six girls have performed brilliantly in the Primary Maths Challenge achieving Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
